Welcome to McDonough Housing Authority

The McDonough Housing Authority (MHA) is a federally funded agency, operating independently of City government. We help provide low and moderate-income public housing for the City of McDonough and through partner programs, offer our residents opportunities to improve their lives. The McDonough Housing Authority owns and operates 118 units of conventional public housing located at three sites: Lamar Point, located off Lewis Street, Hooten Street Apartments, and Weaver-Thurman Crossing, located off Church Circle. Our apartments are all brick construction, with central heat and air conditioning. The interior of the units are fitted with Energy Star-rated appliances. Washer and dryer connections come standard at Lamar Point and Weaver- Thurman Crossing, while only the two and three bedroom units have washer hookups at Hooten Street Apartments. All of our housing developments are in close proximity to employment centers, religious and educational institutions, and recreational and cultural amenities.

The McDonough Housing Authority does not operate a Section 8 program.  That program is handled through the Georgia Department of Community Affairs, and can be reached at:

Update to the Admissions and Continued Occupancy Policy

In accordance with 24CFR Chapter 966.3, The Housing Authority of the City of McDonough plans to amend the Admissions and Continued Occupancy Policy (ACOP) effective January 1, 2021. Please note that the thirty (30) days comment/ posting period will end November 7, 2020.

The public meeting will be held to discuss the proposed changes and to provide you with the opportunity to present verbal and/or written comments. The public meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at the Willie F. Kimble Community Room of the McDonough Housing Authority, 345 Simpson Street, McDonough, GA. Please come to the meeting to better understand the proposed changes and to provide any comments that you may have. If you are unable to attend the public meeting, please submit your written comments by 5:30 p.m. on Monday, November 9, 2020.

The proposed ACOP is available for review and comment at the central office located at 345 Simpson Street, McDonough, GA 30253 between the hours of 7:00am and 5:30pm, Monday- Thursday or can be emailed, if requested.
